Hootsuite recently published their annual Social Media Trends for 2019 to make use of popular social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others to fully utilize its new features to gain audiences and engagement between big brands or news organisation and their followers.
Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox shared a chart on users using the stories feature as the primary method of sharing things to their friends within next year with nearly a billion users across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat already turn to stories to share. For example, The Star Online should create an Instagram account to post some interactive news story on the Instagram Stories like doing a poll or asking the followers on a particular news happening in Malaysia.

Moreover, The Star Online can do a quick live news report on Instagram or Facebook live. When the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) rally was happening on December 8, 2018 (Saturday), the journalists from The Star Online can live report from the rally showing their audiences the amount of people attend the rally and live interview the participants about their opinion towards ICERD.
Currently, users are spending more time on messaging applications and less time sharing news on their social media account. Based on a study conducted by Facebook in 2018, 69 percent of U.S. respondents said it helps them feel more confident towards a brand whenever they send a direct message to the company. Putting things in local perspective, The Star Newspaper can do a question and answer session by asking their audiences to send their question on Facebook, WeChat, or WhatsApp. In addition, The Star Newspaper can use artificial intelligence (AI) bots to categories the questions based on the topic.
